Knowledge of disabilities may decrease negative attitudes, may increase understandingof the
broad range of disabilities, how to deal with these issues, and know that many disabilities are not always readily apparent.
As you are navigating through life, are you aware of the many people with disabilities around you that just are not that obvious? These may include you, or a friend.
For instance:
At school there are "slow learners." On the bus, a lady may be temporarily confused, and just needs patience. You may see someone park their car with a handicapped tag in the window. You observe, as they leave the car, no disability is evident. A man is holding up the checkout line at the supermarket, because he can't remember his phone # for the store's discount. This may be only a temporary everyday occurance, not involving a disability at all. You just do not know.
